Dead Insect Found in Pizza at La Milano Pizzeria in Ahmedabad; Outlet Fined ₹10,000

Ahmedabad: A customer in the Nikol area has alleged that he found a dead insect in a pizza ordered from a local outlet of La Milano Pizzeria, prompting a complaint and action by food safety authorities.

The incident came to light after Dhruvil Sojitra, a resident of Nikol, ordered pizza, garlic bread and a soft drink through the outlet’s online ordering platform. According to the customer, he had consumed nearly half of the pizza when he noticed what appeared to be a dead insect stuck to the pizza base.

Shocked by the discovery, Sojitra immediately contacted the outlet and lodged a complaint. He alleged that the store staff responded by offering a refund for the order, which he said was inadequate given the potential health risks involved.

“If a child or another customer had unknowingly consumed the contaminated food, who would have taken responsibility?” Sojitra reportedly questioned while expressing dissatisfaction with the outlet’s response.

The customer said he intends to file an official complaint with the food department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), seeking strict action against the establishment.

Following the complaint, authorities inspected the outlet located near Raspan Crossroads in Nikol. During the inspection, officials found that the establishment possessed a valid licence from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), maintained a pest control certificate and had proper arrangements for kitchen waste disposal. The kitchen was also found to be generally clean and hygienic.

However, food safety officials imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the outlet in connection with the incident.

The case has once again raised concerns over food quality and hygiene standards at restaurants and food outlets in Ahmedabad, where complaints involving contaminated food have surfaced periodically in recent months. DeshGujarat
