Another Man Killed in Lion Attack in Gujarat; 2nd Death in Two Days

Ahmedabad: A day after a migrant worker was killed in a suspected lion attack in Amreli district, another fatal incident believed to involve an Asiatic lion was reported from neighbouring Bhavnagar, raising concerns in the region.

The remains of a 34-year-old man, identified as Nagjibhai Premjibhai Gujariya of Gadhada village in Mahuva taluka, were found in a shrub-covered area on Wednesday morning. Forest officials said only his head and some skeletal remains were recovered, while the rest of the body is suspected to have been consumed by lions.

The body was discovered at around 10:30 am near the road leading to the well-known Pingaleshwar Mahadev temple. According to local residents, Gujariya, who worked as a daily-wage labourer, had not returned home after work on Tuesday night. Family members and locals began searching for him, following which his clothes and remains were found in the area.

The incident occurred within the Mahuva Wildlife Range under the Shetrunji Forest Division. Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Chirag Amin said preliminary findings suggest a lion attack, though a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the death.

The incident comes just a day after a similar case was reported from Kovaya village in Rajula taluka of Amreli district, where the body of Prakash Chandra, a migrant worker from Uttarakhand employed as a cook at a local restaurant, was found in a mutilated condition. Forest officials had also suspected a lion attack in that case.

The two incidents in quick succession have sparked concern among residents in areas located near lion habitats. Graphic videos from both locations have circulated widely on social media, while wildlife experts and conservationists have described the incidents as both tragic and alarming. DeshGujarat
