IMD Issues Flash Flood Warning for Vadodara, Surat, Other Parts of Gujarat Until Sunday

Vadodara: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flash flood risk warning for several parts of Gujarat, including Vadodara, Surat, Gandhinagar, Navsari and Valsad.

According to the IMD’s latest Flash Flood Guidance bulletin issued by its Hydromet Division’s Flash Flood Guidance Cell, low to moderate flash flood risk is likely over a few watersheds and neighbouring areas in Gujarat till 5:30 pm on Sunday, July 5.

The districts covered under the 24-hour flash flood outlook include Navsari, Panchmahal, Surat, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Mehsana, Patan, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Valsad and Banaskantha. In the Saurashtra-Kutch region, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Amreli and Junagadh districts have also been included in the flash flood risk outlook.

The IMD has also issued a short-term six-hour flash flood threat forecast till 11:30 pm on Saturday, warning of low to moderate flash flood threat over parts of Dahod, Vadodara, Anand, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Patan and Chhota Udepur districts.

According to the weather agency, surface runoff and inundation may occur in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas due to the expected rainfall during the forecast period. Residents in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain alert, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and along small streams and rivers.

The latest bulletin also places parts of Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and adjoining districts of Gujarat under flash flood risk as widespread rainfall activity continues over western India. DeshGujarat
