IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain in Parts of Gujarat Till Sunday Morning

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Gujarat over the next seven days, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in parts of South Gujarat on Sunday (July 19).

According to the IMD’s evening weather bulletin issued on Saturday, heavy rain is very likely at isolated places in the South Gujarat districts of Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and Tapi, as well as in the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli during the next 24 hours, until 8:30 am on Sunday.

The IMD said the monsoon trough continues to extend from Amritsar through Karnal, Hardoi, Ranchi and Digha towards the northwest Bay of Bengal. Upper-air cyclonic circulations persist over parts of Gangetic West Bengal, north Jharkhand and southwest Madhya Pradesh, while southwesterly winds continue to prevail over the region, supporting monsoon activity.

For Sunday (July 19), light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at a few places across North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, while many places in South Gujarat are expected to receive rain. The forecast covers all districts, including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kutch and other parts of the state.

From July 20 to July 25, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places across North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, while South Gujarat is likely to receive rain at isolated to a few places during the period.

The weather office has also said that maximum temperatures are likely to remain above normal in isolated pockets of Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch during the next 24 hours.

For Ahmedabad and its adjoining areas, the forecast till 8:30 am on Sunday is for a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

The IMD has advised people in areas receiving heavy rain to remain alert for waterlogging, traffic disruptions and reduced visibility during intense showers. Residents are advised to avoid waterlogged areas, follow traffic advisories and stay updated with the latest weather warnings.  DeshGujarat
