Junagadh’s Durbar Hall Museum Renovated at ₹2.14 Crore, Reopens to Public

Junagadh: The historic Durbar Hall Museum in Junagadh, which remained closed for nearly a year for renovation, is set to reopen after a facelift undertaken at a cost of ₹2.14 crore.

The renovated museum will be inaugurated on Saturday, August 22, at 12 noon. The museum will subsequently reopen for visitors interested in the history and heritage of Junagadh.

Located in the historic city at the foothills of Girnar, the Durbar Hall Museum reflects the region’s political and cultural history, including the period of Nawabi rule under the Babi dynasty.

11 new thematic galleries

As part of the renovation, 11 new thematic galleries have been developed to present the history and heritage of Junagadh in a modern format.

The galleries include sections dedicated to European art, miniature paintings, oil paintings and the Arzi Hukumat, among other themes.

The renovated museum combines its historical collections with modern exhibition techniques, including digital technology, improved lighting and redesigned display arrangements.

Royal and archaeological collections

The museum houses both royal and archaeological collections, offering visitors a look at the material heritage of Junagadh and the former princely state.

The collection includes silver artefacts, palanquins, glassware, weapons and sculptures, along with paintings and other historical objects.

The renovated displays are intended to provide visitors with a more structured understanding of Junagadh’s history while preserving the original character of the museum.

Free entry on inauguration day

To mark the reopening, visitors will be allowed free entry from 3 pm to 5.30 pm on August 22.

The museum’s renovation is expected to add a new dimension to the presentation of Junagadh’s heritage and make the historic collection more accessible to the public.
