Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi watched special screening of UTV Motion Pictures’ forthcoming film ‘A Wednesday’ on Saturday afternoon at City pulse multiplex on Ahmedabad Gandhinagar highway. Modi praised the movie after watching it.
He said “This film has capacity to provide a new strength to humanitarian forces for their fight against terrorism. I have watched the film not as a critic but as a common man. Director Neeraj Pandey has highlighted the problem of terrorism very well. Nasiruddin Shah and Anupam Kher are seasoned actors and they have acted very well. This film has shown how common man is fighting against terrorism on his own.”
Speaking about terrorism he said “Supportive role of security agencies, political power, media and society all-together is necessary to counter terrorism successfully. All humanitarian forces should unite and should show strength to fight against terrorism in one voice employing all available capacity.”
Neeraj Pandey, the director of the film and Anupam Kher who plays the police commissioner in the film, were present at the venue to show the film to Modi.
Some ministers:home minister Amit Shah, cabinet ministers Vajubhai Vala, Nitin Patel, Narottambhai Patel, minister of state Mayaben Kodnani and Parbat patel and police officers including Gujarat police chief P.C. Pande were also part of the audience at this show. When Modi arrived, Anupam Kher welcomed him. Kher accompanied Modi in the show.

Modi is not a movie buff but it was Kher who managed to convince him to watch this film. Kher plays Mumbai’s police commissioner in the movie. “Ahmedabad recently experienced terrorism through series of bomb blasts at public places on July 26, and I strongly felt that there were few aspects in the film that a leader of Modi’s stature should watch it. There is a need to spread awareness about terrorism. After Modi, we will approach chief ministers of other states as well. A big leader like Modi watching the movie will help us. Also, no film has talked about terrorism as this movie does and thats’ why we thought Modi was a perfect candidate to watch this movie first.”Anupam Kher said.

The movie, ‘A Wednesday’, tells the story of some events that unfold between 2 pm and 6 pm on one particular Wednesday in Mumbai. Mumbai’s commissioner of police Prakash Rathod(acted by Anupam Kher) gets a call demanding the release of four terrorists in exchange of information on locations of bombs planted in different areas of Mumbai. Although in a dilemma, Rathod doesn’t give up. He employs his all resources to track the caller(acted by Nasiruddin Shah).
Modi has earlier watched a Gujarati movie titled Karmabhoomi Gujarat Ni, based on his life. He has also watched Border, Gadar, Sardar, Kargil LOC, Veer Savarkar and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
