Ahmedabad to host IPL cricket matches in May this year
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 10th of March, 2009

Last year Ahmedabad missed an opportunity to host any IPL match but this year IPL management has decided to add the city on IPL route. IPL chairman Lalit Modi annouced this decision in a press conference today.
A day before on Monday in related development, Lalit Modi sent an email to Gujarat Cricket Association president Narhari Amin seeking Gujarat government’s confirmation to hold couple of IPL matches in Ahmedabad. Narhari Amin forwarded Lalit Modi’s proposal to Chief Minister Narendra Modi for security related assurances and clearances. Narendra Modi holds the portfolio of home ministry in Gujarat.
It is very much likely that the Gujarat government would give green signal to IPL proposal as the IPL matches are to be played at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Motera stadium after polling is over in the state. Polling for 15th Lok Sabha has been scheduled on 30th April in the state.
The original IPL schedule did not have Ahmedabad as a venue but Rajasthan Royals management had assured Gujarat Cricket Association officials of a couple of matches.
The 45-day IPL cricket extravaganza begins on April 10 and the 60-match league to be played among eight teams in as many cities will end on May 24.
