Tana Riri, Narmada and Tapi enter NIFT’s Gandhinagar campus

The new facilities including Girls’ Hostel, Auditorium, New Students’ Mess Block and Guest House were inaugurated and foundation laying of the new developments was done on Tuesday at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in presence of Central Minister of Textile Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar Shri Lal Krishna Advani.
The new campus which was inaugurated in year 2004 has now added the required new facilities for the benefit of the students. Now the girl students will be accommodated from the July 2010 session in the 200 bedded hostel having two wings named after the two westward flowing perennial rivers of Gujarat; Narmada and Tapi; with in-house facilities like Common-rooms, indoor games etc.
To maintain tempo for academic and cultural activities in the campus, NIFT has equipped an Auditorium with high end presentation and AV system with a seating capacity of 340 in the campus. This auditorium – TANARIRI is named after the two legendary singer sisters Tana and Riri from North Gujarat, who were contemporary of Tansen.
NIFT has also set up a three storey Students’ Mess – cum – Canteen block to cater to the requirements of the students, staff and faculty – named as ‘Fuel Station’. To offer the feel of the campus to the visiting faculties, guest experts from industry, relatives -and parents of students NIFT has built a fully equipped five room Guest Staying Facility named ‘Gulmohar’.
In the process of offering the requisite facilities, NIFT is all set to lay the foundation for new facilities in the third phase expansion on the same day i.e. l2th January 2010. The foundation was laid for the expansion of the main building and a multipurpose Student Activity Centre with all required recreational, sports, medical and informal get-together facilities for students.

A multipurpose Student Activity Centre will be constructed with Badminton Hall, Indoor Games Plaza, Stationery Shop, Gymnasium, Doctor’s Room, Counselor’s Room, Music Room and an Amphitheatre at the cost of Rs. 303 lakhs.
Vertical Expansion of the Main Block
Additional 20,000 square feet area will be constructed on the main academic block for additional Class Rooms, Studios and Labs at the cost of Rs. 600 lakhs.
