The ongoing 63rd IRIA at Karnavati club drew an overwhelming response with enthusiastic delegates attending the conference and the trade exhibition. Based on theme of ‘Research to Reality’, the delegates were updated in application of different advanced technology in CT and MRI in neuroradiology, musculoskeletal, cardiac and gastrointestinal radiology.

Many foreign faculties were present at the conference to name a few Dr. Scott Atlas, Dr. Ulrik and Dr. Resnick from USA Advanced techniques like diffusion weighted images, perfusion scanning, MRI spectroscopy solves problems in stroke, tumours and infections of the brain was discussed in advanced neuroimaging session on 24th afternoon session. Dr Resnick discussed the role of MRI in tendinosis and tendon tears which is the modality of choice for these diseases. Newer non-invasive techniques are applicable in treatment of varicose veins with 93% patient satisfaction. Disease like arterio-venous malformations can be treated with embolization was emphasized on 24th in afternoon session by Dr. Dr.Dong IK Kim from korea due to which the surgeries can be avoided. Breast workshop discussed the newer technique to detect and stage malignancy and stressed importance of mammography in early detection of malignancy. Breast elastography is newer technique to detect the malignancies. Workshop and session on fetal imaging in last two days drew a huge crowd with live demonstration of fetal scanning to detect congenital abnormality and more than 50%of anomalies can be detected from 11-13 weeks of gestation.

The most common being Down’s syndrome fetal imaging session can be diagnosis easily with USG was conveyed by Dr.S.Suresh eminent sonologist specialist in fetal imaging. Focused MR has a well-proven role especially in the treatment of uterine fibroids as a fertility preserving therapy. Various studies are showing increasing use of Focused MR in treatment of various cancers particularly; breast, prostate and liver was discussed on 25th morning by Dr.Srinivas Desai eminent interventional radiologist from Mumbai.3-Tesla MRI has opened a new direction for evaluation of liver, biliaryand pancreatic pathology was stressed by Dr. Hemant Patel eminent radiologist from Samved Hospital Ahmedabad. Trade exhibit displayed equipments with latest technology in the field of radiology drwing large crowd.
