Gujarat Congress leader and Porbandar MLA Arjin Modhwadia was detained by state police in Porbandar today.

“Gujarat government has organized Poor Welfare Fair today in Porbandar. I am local MLA and according to protocol, a local MLA and local MP should be invited with allocation of proper seat on the stage and also a chance to speak something. I was invited in the function and I had planned to attend it. But Police officials came to my residence and said they were ordered to detain me. They have put me here in Police Station now,” Modhwadia said.

“Garib Kalyan Mela is government’s function and not individual party’s function, therefore local MLA has right to attend it. By organizing Garib Kalyan Melas, Modi is making ground for forthcoming district panchayat and civic elections. He deliverers benefits to poor people using the central government schemes, but in his speeches he attacks central government only. I wanted to attend his function and wanted to expose, oppose and answer him whenever he dared to speak anything against central government, but I have been prevented to go to the function,” Modhwadia added.

It should be mentioned that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is in Porbandar today to attend prayer at Gandhiji’s birth place, sand sculpture competition at Chowpatty and also a Garib Kalyan Mela. According to local police sources, Modhwadia was detained under Preventive act. He was later freed.
