Fire breaks out in Ahmedabad’s VS hospital

Ahmedabad based Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital’s old cath lab caught fire on Saturday in the afternoon. Huge amount of smoke created chaos. About 26 patients were rescued from windows.
According to Chief Fire Officer Minoch Dastoor, an X ray machine’s electric controller socket and battery unit sparked fire first. Dastoor said there was zero visibility and flames were not visible. It was cable and insulating material that caused smoke due to burning. A high power exhaust fan was used to pull out the white smoke. Cath lab’s smoke soon spread to nearby ICCU unit.
The incident of fire in this Rs 3.5 crore cath lab has caused crores of Rupees loss. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gautam has ordered inquiry. Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas said a woman who died during the fire was on ventilator and she died due to illness. Her death should not be connected with the incident of fire.
