1,75,988 children enrolled on day one of Shala Pravesh Utsav

A total of 1,75,988 children in the age group of 5+, comprising 84,426 girls and 91,562 boys of rural areas were enrolled in Std. 1, on the first day of a three-day Swarnim Shala Praveshotsav campaign. About 1867 children were readmitted to school and Anganwadis in 26 districts of the State also saw some 2619 enrollments letting in 1328 boys and 1291 girls, according to state govt.
Contributions in cash and kind worth Rs.3,02,20,970 were received by schools from local donors. Under Vidhyalaxmi Yojana, 26559 girls enrolled in Std.1 were given Vidhyalami bonds.
As per the strategy, Kanya Kelavani Rath Yatra, led by all the cabinet ministers, MLAs, MPs, Chief Secretary and officers from IAS, IPS, IFS and Secretariat cadres and Education Department, are being carried out in villages. Every minister and officer is visiting at least five schools everyday. Eligible children, dressed for the occasion are taken for a joyride on bullock-carts, camel-carts, tractors with carriers and trucks, through the main streets before arriving at the school where they are greeted with warm welcome by teachers, members of Village Education Committees, Mother Teacher Association, Parent-Teacher Association and self-help groups. A tilak is applied on the forehead of the newly enrolled children, who are also offered sweets and confectionery. The efforts are being made to make them feel that a school is a place for fun and enjoyment.
School enrollment drive under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi and supervision of Minister of Education Shri Ramanlal Vora, Minister of State for Education Department Shri Jaysinh Chauhan, Principal Secretary to Education Department Shri Hasamukh Adhiya and high officials is getting intense and enthusiastic participation of people.
