Taking a dig at the Centre for tardy pace of construction of venues for Commonwealth Games (CWG), Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi today said even if prime minister wipes the floor, venues would not be ready for the games.
“I don’t know what is happening in the Commonwealth Games. Even if the PM (Manmohan Singh) starts wiping the floor, the venues won’t be ready for the game,” Modi said at a function here.
“CWG people had four years to get the venues ready, but they are still struggling. They should have given it to Ahmedabad (Municipal Corporation), which would have built those stadiums in time,” Modi said.
Alleging misuse of CBI by Congress after arrest of his close aide Amit Shah in Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, Modi said,”Delhi Sultanate thinks that CBI can save them every time. But even CBI cannot save them from CWG debacle,”
Modi also warned the union government to stop threatening Gujarat in the name of CBI.

Hey Pravin, you are absolutely right, but we gotta consider that AMC has completed all the project on time which are crucial for the international recognition, like BRTS, Vibrant Gujarat summit preparation, etc. Modiji hasn’t let us down on that.

Guys, calm down…. Even I do appreciate the work that is done by Mr. Modi in Gujarat and trust me I am another fan of him.. What I meant here is that, there are still certain things which are still in Progress and those are taking time or on hold…. so this doesn’t mean that I am commenting against Mr. Modi or Guj. government…
Even I vote for BJP in every election… but as we all know there is a UPA government in Centre.. means there are more people in India trusting UPA then NDA / BJP…. I visited Gujarat third time, and River front is still not completed and showing the same progress as earlier about 5 years ago. I’m telling you the fact, why river front is getting delayed b’se in 2008/2007(not sure about the exact year) there was a heavy rain in Gujarat and Sabarmati had got a tremendous flow of water from other nearest states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Work which had been completed for river front was wiped out in the flood and they had to reconstruct the wall on both the side of the river coast. Earlier height of the wall was not too high as we can see it right now, so there was a change in plan and construction strategy which made a huge delay in work progress. But I’m satisfied to see the river is tied with huge walls from both the side. This kind of initiative in India, indeed is a great task and it can be done by a man like Narendra Modi only. People will shut up their mouth when they can see complete river front. I can see and sure that those days are not too far. So Gujarat will again be an admiration for others to take some serious and strict step to take initiatives like river front. If in case you guys don’t know then let me tell you the biggest success of Gujarat government that they have connected 21 rivers of state and people of Kutch and shaurashtra now drink water of Narmada. What else you need mere bhai???? Have you seen any thing like this in other state of India???

To whoever who claims water problem of Gujarat is fully solved:
In my hometown Bhavnagar (which is a district headquarter) – there are water supply cuts 3 times a week. This is only official cuts. There are shortages apart from them also.
Despite all halla-gulla about outreach of Narmada (and we know waters are here already), we are facing severe water crisis. There are cases of inordinate water pumping among neighborhoods, and Municipal Corp doesn’t do ANYTHING TO PREVENT the same. Reasons are NOT BEYOND ANYONE’S comprehensions.
NOT to condemn the tone of admiration for big achievements. But if the big towns like Bhavnagar are ignored in basic growth story, still after 8 years of same Govt reign, imagine what maybe the case with villages.
We know the intentions are good, so the only word is Good luck.

Modi is one of few in India who actually has done enough to have a right to criticize others. And, rather than point fingers, the congressies should come clean and accept that they are lagging. If they asked for help, I am sure Modi and others would have helped them.

Mr. Bhatt has given wrong info about Bhavnagar. Bhavnagar had only 2 days water supply cut in last summer and not 3. In some areas water supply was irregular due to construction of new water filter at Tarsamiya and Pipeline was being laid accordingly to cover certain parts of city. The problem was purely of water management and deliberate water cut to facilitate proper laying down of pipelines for new filter project. 2 days water supply cut is good, I have seen people wasting water in cities, specially in Bhavnagar to wash their compound walls etc. Last monsoon was short by about 40% so 2 water cuts per week are completely understandable.

I have never seen water cuts < 3 in my area since years. I am living in an area which existed in old Bhavnagar even 100 years ago, so faulty lines is not quite justifiable on a longer period.
Also, it does not sound logical of unequal water supply to diff areas of the same city, simply based on the fact that water cut will make people save more water. On the same line, what explains two times municipal water supply to big cities like Ahmedabad? I have seen people drenching their ground with abundant water everyday in Gujarat – rarely seen that in Saurashtra town whose sole source is Municipal water as there is no underground water also.
About fault repairing point – How much time does it take to repair a fault? Water & Electricity are building blocks of the development. Why isn't it possible to take proactive measures so that maintenance does not bring down the whole system? Do you think industry can survive with regular supply-cut mechanism? Just like that, don't you think enough water to everyone can ensure proper health, which in turn convert to economic progress?
If you think on that line, you will realize that it all comes around political will, which is less inclined in developing certain areas. Why isn't Govt seeing under-developed towns like Bhavnagar as opportunities / low-cost centers? If it looks after the matter, it will decentralize population, reduce pollution, over-consumption of goods in mega-cities and also bring down social instability due to unemployment. It will only stabilize the ever-brightening growth story of Gujarat.
I definitely believe other states are far behind than us in this area, but Gujarat has never competed with them. As many a times Govt points out, Gujarat's competition is with developed countries like Singapore and others.
I am great supporter of this Govt's people-centric agendas – and it is this very fact which makes me point out these loopholes.
