Air India cancels Ahmedabad-Mumbai-London flight

In view of the prevailing bad weather conditions in London, Air India decided not to run its flights AI 111 / AI 112 on the Delhi / London / Delhi sector and AI 130 / AI 131 on the Mumbai / London / Mumbai sector of December 20, 2010 Monday.

Dismissal of flight 130/131 directly affected the Gujarati passengers. While flight AI 130 departs from London and arrives at Ahmedabad via Mumbai, the flight AI 131 starts from Ahmedabad and reaches London via Mumbai.

On Monday, 60 passengers were to leave Ahmedabad in flight A! 131 from city’s Sardar Patel international airport. However many of them came to know about cancellation of flight when they reached the airport. Some other were contacted b Air India through SMS or call, but they complained that they were informed so late that it didn’t help much.

Air India issued a press release about cancellation of 20th December flight, but the release reached newspaper offices in the evening. The flight from Ahmedabad was to depart at 23.15.

Aid India in its release said:

“Air India flights AI 111 / AI 112 on the Delhi / London / Delhi sector and AI 130 / AI 131 on the Mumbai / London / Mumbai sector of December 20, 2010 are being held back at the originating stations. The flights will be operated subject to necessary clearances from the London Heathrow Airport authorities.”

“Air India passengers bound for London from Mumbai and Delhi are requested to be in touch with Air India offices before reporting at the airports. Also, passengers who have bookings on these flights and who want to change them to a future date may do so without any additional charge.”
