Bar Council of Gujarat receives complain against riot case lawyers
Ahmedabad, 22 December, 2010

Bar Council of Gujarat has received a complaint on professional misconduct from Naroda Patiya case accused Premchand Tiwari demanding action against five advocates associated with post-Godhra riot cases.
An accused in Naroda Patiya massacre case of the 2002 riots has approached the Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG) and filed a complaint of professional misconduct against five high court lawyers.
Tiwari in his complain has named five lawyers including Jan Sangharsh Manch’s Mukul Sinha, Amrish Patel, SH Iyer, Samshad Pathan and MM Tirmizi.
Tiwari claimed that the lawyers have violated rules under Advocates Act. Tiwari alleged that the advocates had ‘tutored’ a key witness in the riot case.
He alleged that the affidavit filed before Gujarat High Court by one Dildar Umrao Saiyed, a key witness in the case, differed from his deposition in cross examination during trial. He alleged that the witness was not aware of certain statements made on affidavit before the High Court. The witness in his deposition claimed that it was an act without his knowledge and the advocates must be responsible.
According to J.J.Patel, President of Bar Council of Gujarat, the decision on this will be taken in Bar Council’s general meeting.
