A meeting of group of ministers will be held on Thursday in New Delhi to take a decision on lifting the ban on cotton export.

It should be mentioned that in current season, the central government had approved export of only 55 lakh bales cotton. After the quota limit ended, the prices of cotton came down drastically in local market.

The group of ministers include Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, Commerce and Industry minister Anand Sharma and Textile minister Dayanidhi Maran.

Meanwhile according to sources, Gujarat Congress has shifted its earlier declared 1st June farmers stir in Gujarat to 4th June. It is believed that this decision has been taken in view of cotton export ban tangle(Read: Gujarat Congress in embarrassing situation), as there’s no decision by the centre on cotton export ban issue yet. The Gujarat Congress will now kick start its farmers agitation in Gujarat only after the cotton export ban issue is resolved possibly on Thursday in the group of ministers meeting.
