Cotton sowing in Gujarat this Kharif increases by 10%

Cotton sowing during kharif season this year has witnessed increase of 10% or 3 lakh hectares as per the figures available on 12 August.
Gujarat is India’s largest cotton producing state . The area under cotton cultivation last year in Kharif(monsoon) season was 26.09 lakh hectares. This year it’s 29.05 lakh hectare land, which is more than one-third of the total land in which kharif sowing normally take place in the state.
Against average sowing of 86.99 lakh hectare total Kharif sowing(all crops), Gujarat has witnessed completion of only 78.85 lakh hectare sowing this Kharif season so far which is l10% less than average. However actual estimate of output can not be reached now as some crops such as castor seed and cotton can still be sown during remaining days of monsoon.
