Porbandar, 21 January 2012
Somali pirates released Gujarat’s dhow without any condition or taking any amount of money
Carrying a stock of sugar, a dhow ship ‘Mother’, owned by Porbandar based Narshibhai Masani, left Gujarat’s Okha port on December 27th to reach Africa’s Kismayo port. The ship was taken over by Somali pirates near Sikotara port.
After thirteen days, when the ship was running out of diesel, the pirates deserted it leaving 15 sailors safe and untouched.
It is believed that Somali pirates found this ship too small, but they wanted to use it to kidnap a bigger ship. However, after there was no diesel stock enough to stay longer aboard, the pirates left the ship.
