Ahmedabad, 31 January 2012
There’s again a moment of embarrassment for the Congress Party.
Delhi Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit has praised Gujarat development.
Speaking at a function in New Delhi, Dikshit said there is no two opinion that development is taking place in Gujarat. She added that governments get re-elected because of good work.
“I am not talking about party. There is no two opinion that development is taking place in Gujarat and (beacause o that) government gets re-elected. Why governments re-elected. Why they come again and again. Because they ensure development,” Sheila said.
Earlier during Punjab assembly campaign, former Chief Minister and state Congress president Amrinder Singh had reportedly demanded vote for his party saying that his party would bring Gujarat-like progress in Punjab.
Last week Gujarat Congress had released an advertisement narrating achievements of all Chief Ministers of Gujarat including present CM Shri Narendra Modi.
Later in the evening Sheila Dikshit’s office issued a clarification and said, “It is to clarify that Sheila Dikshit did not praise any chief minister while answering questions posed by the media persons. CM Sheila Dikshit stated that the governments which have been concentrating on fine-tuning governance and have provided stability have been returned to power in the country. This happened in Delhi, Assam and somewhat in Gujarat”.
“I cannot possibly be praising a leader or a Chief Minister who has been accused by people of his involvement in Godhara riots which killed many many innocent people. The Godhara incident was communalisation. How can we Congress people even think of praising such a person”? Dikshit told PTI.
