Gandhinagar, 8 February, 2012
The government of Gujarat today took a decision to cancel the Gujarat Public Trust (Amendment) 2011 act.
Gujarat assembly had passed the Gujarat Public Trust (Amendment) Bill in March 2011. Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal cleared this bill in June 2011. Once notified, the Act was to replace the Bombay Public Trusts Act,1950.
However citing the opposition to this act from various religious trusts in the state, the government delayed its implementation.
Later a sub committee chaired by state Finance minister Shri Vajubhai vala was formed to study the act. This same committee today submitted its report to the state cabinet, after which a decision was taken to dump the new act by moving a bill in next assembly session.
