Degree engineering seats allotted cross 50,000 mark in Gujarat

The All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) has approved 3180 more seats of mechanical(1320), automobile(300), civil(630) and electrical(780), computer(60), instrument control(60) and chemical engineering(30) in 27 colleges across Gujarat.
Permission for 300 seats has been granted to two new colleges of Navrachna University(240 seats) and Ahmedabad University(new course of Information and Communication Technology with 60 seats).
In last year 6,000 seats remained vacant in engineering colleges in the state despite the admission criteria lowered to 45% for general category and 40% for reserved category students. With new addition, there are now 50,661 degree engineering seats in the state available for admission through the centralized admission process.
Sources said, more 15 colleges are likely to get more seats before the next admission season.
