Narendra Modi visiting Manavadar assembly seat for the first time as CM today

Ahmedabad, 6 May, 2012
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will visit Saurashtra’s Manavadar today to kick off annual Krushi Mahotsav.
Manvadar is one assembly constituency area in Gujarat which never witnessed the visit of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Locals believe that Modi never visited the area apprehending anger of farmers in connection with the dark zone issue. Dark zones are “over exploited” and “critical blocks” in the state where level of ground water has significantly gone down due to uncontrolled lifting of ground water for agricultural use.
Manavadar falls under dark zone area where new agriculture power connections were not given in last decade, as per the notification issued by state government run power company in 2003.
However in February this year, in a major decision, the government of Gujarat made an announcement to give agriculture power connections in 57 ‘dark zone’ talukas of the state including Manavadar.
The Chief Minister later decided to kick off the Krushi mahotsav from Manvadar.
Manavadar is represented in assembly by Congress MLA Jawahar Chavda, who is moving in villages of his constituency for last few days canvassing against Chief Minister’s visit. Modi’s entry into Manavadar is seen as his direct attack on Congress fort.
