Ahmedabad, 27 June 2012
Gujarat High Court has handed over Junagadh HIV case probe to CBI.
A division bench of of acting chief justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and justice Pardiwalat today handed over Junagadh HIV case probe to CBI. The decision came in response to a PIL seeking CBI probe in the case of 23 thalassemic kids getting infected by HIV following a blood transfusion.
The state government had opposed CBI probe mentioning that how in the politically-charged environment, everything was being politicised. However the division bench was not satisfied with the investigation carried out by investigating officer Shobha Bhutada who belongs to state police. The court had earlier prevented Bhutada from carrying out further investigation.
