The Governor Dr.Smt.Kamla hoisted the tricolour at Ahwa in Dang today morning on the 64th Republic Day, amidst a patriotic atmosphere filled with the tunes of national anthem and flower-pelting from the helicopter of Indian Air Force. People of Dang, thousands in number, thronged the police parade ground to join the celebration. The Chief Minister, along with the Governor, gave salute to the tricolour. The uniformed band played the salutation tune for unbroken ninety seconds in the honour of the tricolor and the guests.

Usually, the haste for exit is seen in people at the time of conclusion of programmes. But, what was remarkable in this programme was that spectators, sitting in the pavilion and standing on terraces, were so immersed in the atmosphere that they did not wanted to leave. Patriotic songs, Dang’s folk dances and music mesmerized them.

About 850 students of local schools demonstrated their yoga skills. About 17 tableaux of different departments and corporations of the government showcased various aspects of Gujarat’s development. People applauded the impressive march-past of the uniformed troops and the energizing tunes played by the police band. The presentation of the male and female bike-riders grabbed everyone’s attraction. Aerobics exercises, showing the heights of body-bending, also fetch great applause from the people.

For the brilliant performance in parade, the Chetak commando was declared first winner, SRP group-3 stayed second and the Raksha Shakti University was the third winner. Trophy was awarded to female police Sejal Rawal and Mittal Barot for amazing performance on the motorcycle. Among the tableaux, the tableau of Forest department was declared first winner, while Home department’s tableau, giving information related to crimes against women, remained second and the tableau of dairy development was declared the third winner. The Governor and the Chief Minister handed over the trophies and prizes.

It is worth mentioning here that in continuation to the practice initiated by the Gujarat Chief Minister to organize the national festivals at different district places of the state, the celebration of 64th Republic Day was organized at Ahwa, headquarter of Dang, in the midst of Sahyadri mountain range.

District Panchayat President Bibiben Chaudhary, Valsad MP Kishan Patel, Navsari MP C.R.Patil, Rajya Sabha MP Bharatsinh Parmar, Dang MLA Mangalbhai Gavit, Mahuva MLA Mohanbhai Dhodiya, Chief Secretary A.K.Joti, State Police chief Chittranjan Singh, Principal Secretary to Finance Varesh Sinha, Principal Secretary to Tribal Development Sanjay Prasad, Secretary to Cultural Activities Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary in-charge Sudipkumar Nanda, senior police officials, leaders of the society, students and people in large number were present on the Republic Day celebration.
