Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Gujarat’s first-of-its-kind triangular railway over bridge, named after Swami Vivekanand, across the busy Gondal Road-Mavdi Road at Rajkot, built at a cost of Rs.58-crore. The total length of the 16.50-metre wide is 1.13-km, having 37 spans of 22-metre each. Nearly 1.50 vehicles pass through this section daily.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Gujarat’s esteem is on the rise across the world, even as Rajkot has now joined the race for modern urban development, in league with other modern cities of India.
Taking a dig at his adversaries, he said that Gujarat would continue to develop with people’s support despite opposition from vested interests who have been repeatedly thrashed in the elections. It is the result of Gujarat Government’s decision to observe 2007 as the Year of Urban Development, allocating crores of rupees in various welfare schemes, he said.
Referring to dams drying up in Saurashtra and Kutch region, he said that corrective steps are being taken for effective water management. He said the Centre continued to disallow Gujarat raise the height of SSP dam on the Narmada.
On World Women’s Day being celebrated today, he complimented the people of Rajkot city for winning awards for women’s safety, besides cleanliness and sanitation, thanks to the city’s rich culture and traditions. While women’s safety has become a nightmarish issue across the country, including that in the national capital in New Delhi, he wished people uphold the ideals of Swami Vivekanand, still relevant on his 150th birth anniversary year.
Mr. Modi said that people’s aspirations and expectation from the government is ever rising, but the latest Union Budget failed to provide any solution to the needs of youth or women, adding to overall gloom.
Those who spoke or were present on the occasion included Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Govindbhai Patel, BJP state general secretary and ex-MP Vijay Rupani, MLAs Kantibhai Amritiya and Bhanuben Babaria, District Collector Rajendra Kumar, Mayor Janakbhai Kotke, Deputy Mayor Dipaben Chikani and Standing Committee Jaiman Upadhyay, among others.
