Gandhinagar, 6 June 2013
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today exhorted the school teachers to begin the new academic year with new ideas, new curiosity, new enthusiasm and new energy to build a new generation.
Inaugurating a five-day training programme for primary school teachers held simultaneously online at 300-odd training centres across the state under the aegis of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Gujarat Government’s Education Department, he said the Gujarat Government has provided the best possible basic amenities in the state schools. Now it is time for the teachers to provide the best possible education to the students. Attempt should be to make every government school ‘A’ Grade.
Videoconferencing with 2.20-lakh teachers of Standard 1-8 through BISEG satellite communication for nearly an hour, Mr. Modi said that mere physical presence is not enough but should be backed by full mental attention in the classroom.
He said that teaching is like consecrating each child in the temples of education. The PTC, B. Ed. or M. Ed. certificates are not just degrees but also teacher’s duty to sow the seeds of culture and values, to tell the students the purpose of life through preaching and practice, to maintain live contact with family-parents of the students, at least once every month. Such ideals would also prompt the students to respect their teachers.
Mr.Modi said that he is keen to build a strong and bright Gujarat and teachers have to play the most crucial role in it. The world is increasingly becoming lonely, losing community feeling. “I invite the teaching community to maintain direct communication with me through the social media, mobile,” he said.
Those present on the occasion included Education Secretary Sangita Singh, Chief Minister’s Additional Principal Secretary A.K. Sharma and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan State Director Mukesh Kumar.
