Uncle-Nephew duo from Surat nabbed for helping AQIS terrorist

Surat: The Special Operation Group (SOG) of the crime branch of Surat police has nabbed two persons for allegedly helping a dreaded terrorist arrested by Delhi Police from Uttar Pradesh last year.

The duo identified as Yahya Gulam Mohammad Shaikh,( 61) and his nephew Parvez Gurumiya Saiyed (33) both residents of Rehmat Khan Jamadar Street in Rander area of the city, had helped Zafar Masood alias Guddu (37), a terrorist of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Harkat ul Mujahideen, get a passport on the basis of fake school leaving certificate and ration card. Zafar was arrested by Delhi police from his home in Deepa Sarai in Sambhal town of Western Uttar Pradesh in December 2015 for his alleged links with the AIQS. Later it was found that one of the four passports held by Zafar was issued from Surat.

He had stayed in Surat for almost two years in 2002-03. It was during this period that the duo helped him get a fake school leaving certificate and also a fake ration card. On the basis of these documents he got the passport issued. He used to stay with Yahya. The duo were produced before a court soon after there arrest yesterday which remanded them to police custody for four days for further interrogation and investigation of the matter.The duo was earlier also interrogated by the intelligence bureau.

Zafar had provided funds to Mohammad Asif, another Sambhal resident who was arrested a few days before him last year and two others for going to Pakistan for terrorist training.
