Kayak expert Kaustubh Khade to set on 3300 km long solo expedition from Kutch

Bhuj: Indian Kayak expert Kaustubh Khade will embark upon yet another milestone solo expedition from gulf of Kutch in Gujarat to Kanyakumari to create another record by sailing through around 3300 km in the Indian Ocean alone.

Kaustubh, who had won two silver and one bronze medal in 2012 Asian Dragon Boat Championships in Thailand had last year completed over 400 km solo-kayaking adventure from Mumbai to Goa in 18 days and entered the Limca Book of Records for paddling the long distance in a very short time.

An alumnus of the Delhi IIT, Khade will start his challenging latest adventure from near Dwarka on November 16. He will cross through the sea adjoining Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and the union territory of Lakshdweep to culminate at Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu sometime in the middle or end of February next year.

Khade, who is trained by 12-time world champion in Surf-ski racing, Oscar Chalupsky, has taken up the mission to help unprivileged children for whom he is raising funds.

His girlfriend Shanjli will also be cycling along the coast through out the Kayaking expedition during which Khade will be in his low-to-the-water, canoe-like boat in which the paddler sits facing forward, legs in front, using a double-bladed paddle to pull front-to-back on one side and then the other in rotation known as Kayak.

Kaustubh had left a lucrative marketing job for his passion to use Kayaking expeditions for a good cause (helping poor children). He had raised and donated 67,000 towards it after his Mumbai to Goa expedition which was the first time someone had done a physical endurance event in the promotion of MagicBus, a charity that is doing great work in promoting education through the use of sports in India.
