Parts of Ahmedabad to Face 10-Day AMC Water Supply Cut Amid Narmada Canal Repairs
May 07, 2026
Ahmedabad: Even though summer is at its peak, the city is set to experience a 10-day water shortage, with supply reductions anticipated in both eastern and western parts of the city.
Starting Thursday, residents in five zones, West, Central, North, East, and South, will face a 10% to 15% cut in water supply during morning and evening hours. The disruption stems from repairs being conducted by Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited on the damaged reinforced concrete lining of the main Narmada canal, which supplies raw water to the Kotarpur Water Treatment Plant.
Officials explained that the plant, which typically processes around 1,100 MLD of water for about 170 distribution stations, will receive less raw water, with a shortfall estimated at 50 to 60 MLD per day.
Areas that may be impacted include Paldi, Chandkheda, Sabarmati, Vadaj, Navrangpura, Naranpura, Vasna, and Motera on the western side, as well as large parts of the eastern side, including North, Central, East, and South zones.
Deputy City Engineer in AMC’s water operations noted that water levels have already been adjusted for the repair period. He stated that for the next 10 days, raw water pumps will operate at maximum capacity, supplemented by borewell supply at distribution points instead of relying on gravity flow.
Ahmedabad’s total daily supply of about 1,700 MLD across seven zones relies heavily on Kotarpur, which alone supplies 1,100 MLD. Any disruption there has a ripple effect citywide. Authorities have urged careful water use until normal supply resumes post-repairs. DeshGujarat
