Ahmedabad Police Arrest Assam Trio for AI-Based Cyber Fraud Using Fake Biometrics

Ahmedabad: The City Cyber Crime Cell has arrested three men from Assam for allegedly running an organised cyber fraud racket using AI-generated biometrics, forged documents and cloned identities to open fake bank accounts, secure online loans and siphon off money in the names of unsuspecting victims.

The accused Krishna Prajapati, Kazimuddin Ali and Rabbul Hussain are suspected to be part of a larger interstate cyber fraud syndicate that exploited loopholes in digital identity verification systems using advanced AI tools and stolen personal data.

According to police, the accused procured sensitive personal details of victims and allegedly used the AI platform Gemini to create duplicate biometric credentials. Using these fake biometrics, they reportedly gained unauthorised access to platforms and services including DigiLocker, UIDAI, IDFC First Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, City Union Bank and Jio Payments Bank.

Investigators said the accused manipulated biometric and demographic data to create forged identity records and documents, which were then used to open mule bank accounts and carry out cyber fraud operations across the country.

Police also found that the trio allegedly generated fake CIBIL reports and availed online personal loans using forged identities, leaving victims in financial distress.

“The accused used highly advanced techniques to bypass digital verification systems. They created AI-generated eye-blinking videos from Aadhaar photographs to mimic live biometric authentication,” a senior Cyber Crime Cell officer said.

The case surfaced after a victim approached the Cyber Crime Cell over fraudulent financial transactions and misuse of identity documents. A digital investigation later traced the accused to Assam, leading to their arrest. DeshGujarat
