Of the 410 road fatalities reported in Ahmedabad in 2024, 205 victims, including 180 pedestrians and 25 cyclists, were from the most vulnerable road user categories, making up 50% of total road deaths. This was the highest among 53 cities covered in the report and more than double the national average of 21%.

Meanwhile, in other major cities, pedestrians and cyclists accounted for 44% of road deaths in Surat, 37% in Chennai, 33% in Rajkot, 29% in Bengaluru, 25% in Kolkata, 14% in Vadodara, 11% in Mumbai and 8% in Delhi.

In Ahmedabad, two-wheeler riders were the second-largest category of road fatalities, with 171 deaths, accounting for 42% of the total. SUV and car occupants accounted for 20 deaths, or 5%.

Across Gujarat, two-wheeler riders accounted for the highest number of road deaths. Of the state’s 7,717 fatalities, 3,765 victims (49%) were two-wheeler users, followed by pedestrians at 1,710 deaths (22%). DeshGujarat
