Final Report on Ahmedabad-London AI 171 Crash Expected in a Month: Civil Aviation Minister

Ahmedabad: Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu on Friday said the investigation into the crash of Air India flight AI 171 is in its final phase, and the report is likely to be ready within a month.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at GIFT City, Naidu said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is independently carrying out the probe and has been provided with all required resources. “Based on the information we have received, the process is in its final stages. Mostly, it will take a month,” he said.

The minister said the government is conscious of the seriousness of the incident and stressed that the investigation is being conducted with fairness, transparency, and due diligence, particularly as the crash involved an international flight carrying foreign nationals.

On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed into the hostel complex of BJ Medical College shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft caught fire, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and 19 people on the ground.

Naidu said the Centre wants to expedite the investigation but does not want to compromise the process by rushing it. “Such investigations can come under scrutiny from any country or institution, so every procedure must be followed carefully,” he said.

Responding to concerns raised by some victims’ families over compensation and support from the airline, the minister said the ministry is monitoring the situation closely and has urged Air India to maintain continuous communication with affected families.

“We have a dedicated coordination cell in the ministry to monitor compensation and other relief measures announced earlier. If anyone faces any issue, the ministry will extend full support,” he said.

Recently, around 30 families of crash victims from different parts of Gujarat wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the release of the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) data to help determine the exact cause of the crash. DeshGujarat
