Two Porcupines Rescued From 11th Floor of Building at Vadodara L&T Campus

Vadodara: Two porcupines were rescued from the 11th floor of a newly constructed building at the Larsen & Toubro campus in the city after workers spotted the animals and alerted authorities.

The unexpected sighting caused panic among workers, who immediately informed their supervisors. A wildlife activist was then contacted to safely rescue the animals.

Wildlife rescuer Yash Tadvi said the incident became a topic of discussion as it remained unclear how the porcupines managed to reach the 11th floor without using a lift. He informed the forest department after locating the animals inside a barrel at the construction site.

According to Tadvi, the rescued animals were a male and a female porcupine with a combined weight of nearly 25 kg. Both were later safely rescued from the premises.

Meanwhile, wildlife experts also clarified a common misconception about porcupines. Although many believe porcupines can shoot their quills like arrows when threatened, the animals cannot project their quills. The sharp quills detach only during physical contact or attacks, creating the impression that they were “shot” at predators. DeshGujarat
