Surat Metro to Connect with Bullet Train: 3 New Stations, 4.4 km New Line to HSR Station at Antroli Proposed
May 28, 2026
Japan K. Pathak, Surat: Three new Metro stations and an extension of the existing Metro corridor have been proposed to connect Surat’s Metro network with the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train station at Antroli.
The proposed extension, planned by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) and approved by the State government, will link Saroli, currently the terminal station of Corridor-II (Red Line), to the High-Speed Rail (HSR) station at Antroli. This extension will be in addition to the under-construction Phase-I network, which comprises two corridors spanning 40.35 km with 38 stations.
The 4.4 km-long extension will include three new stations: Kalpataru Metro Station, Ambaba College Metro Station, and Surat HSR Metro Station. With this development, areas such as Chedcha, Vedchha, and Antroli will gain direct Metro connectivity, significantly improving last-mile access to the Bullet Train corridor.
Saroli, the current endpoint of the 18.74 km Red Line originating from Bhesan, will serve as the interchange for the extension. The Red Line already connects key locations, including Majura Gate, an interchange with the Green Line (Sarthana to Dream City), along with major residential and commercial zones across the city.
The extension project is estimated to cost over ₹1,400 crore and is awaiting final approval from the Union Cabinet. In its FY 2027–28 budget, the Gujarat government has earmarked ₹40 crore as capital assistance and ₹40 crore as a loan to support this strategic expansion of Corridor-II to the HSR network.
According to GMRC sources, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extension has already been prepared and submitted to the Ministry. The project aims to enable seamless passenger transfer between the Metro and the upcoming Bullet Train service.
Meanwhile, 24 Metro coaches for Surat have been ordered from Titagarh Rail Systems in West Bengal. Trial runs are already underway on a key stretch of Corridor-I (North-South Corridor). The trials on this corridor, covering 8.5 km between Dream City and Althan Tenement with seven stations, began on March 29, 2026. DeshGujarat
