Chotila: The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajkot Division, has suspended four police personnel, including a Police Inspector, for alleged negligence after the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of Gujarat Police raided a roadside eatery on the Chotila-Rajkot highway and busted a chemical theft network.
On June 10, the State Monitoring Cell conducted a surprise raid at the Pawanputra Rajasthani Hotel on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway based on a tip-off regarding chemical theft. During the raid, officials found 8,330 kg of suspected chemicals stored behind the hotel. Chemicals worth Rs 10.8 lakh and other items were seized, with the total value of the seized goods estimated at Rs 45.9 lakh. A case was subsequently registered with the Chotila police.
The DIG suspended the officers held responsible for failing to detect the alleged crime. Those suspended include Chotila Police Inspector J.N. Solanki, PSI B.N. Galchar, and Police Constables Narendrasinh Surubha Parmar and Dilipbhai Bahadurbhai Manjaria.
The seizure of a large quantity of chemicals from a hotel on the Moldi Highway near Chotila has raised serious questions about the role of the local police and the negligence allegedly shown in the discharge of their duties. Despite such a large quantity of chemicals being stored at the location, no concrete or adequate action was reportedly taken by the local police. In view of the matter, senior officials initiated strict action and issued suspension orders, creating a stir across the Jhalawad region. DeshGujarat.
