Gujarat Gets 8.46% of Seasonal Rainfall; 206 Dams Hold 36% Water on Friday Morning

Surat: As of 6 am today, Gujarat has received 76.92 mm of rainfall this monsoon season, which is 8.46% of the state’s average seasonal rainfall. According to data from the State Emergency Operation Centre, region-wise, Saurashtra has received the highest share of its average monsoon rainfall at 10.45%, followed closely by South Gujarat at 10.39%. East-Central Gujarat has received 7.58%, North Gujarat 4.10%, while Kutch has received just 0.40% of its seasonal average so far.
The data also stated that only one taluka has received between 500 mm and 1,000 mm of rainfall so far, while 16 talukas have recorded 250–500 mm, 37 talukas have received 126–250 mm, and 68 talukas have recorded 51–125 mm of rainfall.
With rainfall activity picking up in several parts of the state over the past few days, reservoirs have also started receiving fresh inflows.
The lifeline of Gujarat, the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, currently holds 2,13,605 mcft of water, which is 63.94% of its total storage capacity. The dam was receiving an inflow of 16,853 cusecs at 8 am, while the outflow stood at 616 cusecs.
The remaining 206 dams across Gujarat together hold 2,00,846 mcft of water, equivalent to 36% of their combined storage capacity. Of these, nine dams are filled between 70% and 100%, 20 dams are between 50% and 70%, 58 dams are between 25% and 50%, while 119 dams are still below 25% of their storage capacity.
Among the state’s major reservoirs, Sukhi Dam is currently 72.56% full, followed by Panam (55.58%), Hathmati (49.03%), Dharoi (47.86%), Shetrunji (46.23%), and Karjan (43.98%).
On the lower side, Sipu (5.20%), Und-I (9.36%), Bhadar (14.29%), Brahmani (21.36%), Machchhu-I (21.78%), and Machchhu-II (22.03%) continue to have relatively low storage levels.
Ukai Dam, one of the state’s largest reservoirs, is currently 34.39% full.
As of today, two dams are on High Alert, none are on Alert, and seven dams are on Warning. The dams on High Alert are Dholidhaja in Surendranagar and Wanakbori in Mahisagar district.
The dams on Warning include Venu-II (Rajkot), Vansal (Surendranagar), Ranghola (Bhavnagar), Saran (Porbandar), Sukhi (Chhota Udepur), Kalaghogha (Kutch), and Bantva-Kharo (Junagadh).
Notably, to avoid any unforeseen situation, nine NDRF teams have been deployed along with 24 SDRF platoons in the rain-hit areas as of 9 am today. DeshGujarat
