ICGS Achal Joins Coast Guard Fleet, Boosting Maritime Security Along Gujarat Coast
June 23, 2026
Vadinar: The Indian Coast Guard on Monday deployed the newly commissioned fast patrol vessel (FPV) ICGS Achal at its home port of Vadinar in the North-West region, strengthening its maritime surveillance capabilities along the Gujarat coast. A ceremonial welcome was held to mark the vessel’s operational induction, attended by Coast Guard officials and local dignitaries.
ICGS Achal, which was commissioned in Goa on May 9, is a 51-metre-long fast patrol vessel equipped with advanced navigation, communication and surveillance systems. Designed for extended patrols and swift-response operations, the vessel is capable of operating effectively in demanding maritime conditions.
Coast Guard officials said the vessel’s deployment comes at a time when maritime security in the Arabian Sea and along India’s western coastline continues to be of strategic importance. The addition of ICGS Achal is expected to enhance round-the-clock coastal surveillance, strengthen monitoring of offshore activities and improve response capabilities during emergencies.
Stationing the vessel at Vadinar holds strategic significance due to its proximity to vital shipping routes, offshore infrastructure and international maritime corridors. Officials said ICGS Achal will support anti-smuggling operations, search-and-rescue missions, fisheries protection and other efforts aimed at safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
