Andrea Swatski from Radford University, USA becomes the first student of specialized program started by Gujarat University. The three weeks program offers a combination of courses related to Indian culture, tradition and philosophy. Gujarat University is claiming to be the only University in India offering such programs to foreign students, NRIs(Non resident Indians) and PIOs(Persons of Indian Origin).

Andrea is here to major in India Classical and Folk Dances. Herself a ballet dancer Andrea chose Gujarat University to broaden her faculties in dance and also because Gujarat can give her insight to the fascinating culture of India. The Garba and Bharatnatyam folk dances has caught her fancy from the text books which she came across while studying Hindi language. She will learn Garba, Bharatnatyam and classical dances in Udaypur(Rajasthan) and Ahmedabad.

Apart from Dance Andrea shall be oriented into Gandhian Philosophy, Indian Cuisine and Hindi language. She will be staying with Gujarati family for five days for having exposure of Gujarati culture. She shall also visit Porbandar, Agra, Vadodara and Gandhinagar for the field trips which are part of her 12 credit course. These credits shall be transferred back to Radford University.

The department of Study Abroad Program has kept 30 hours course in Gandhian Philosophy as a mandatory study.

Another 14 students shall arrive soon to attend 12 weeks and Masters and research programs with Gujarat University. These students belong to the countries like USA, Egypt, Sudan and Iraq.

Gujarat University is conducting these programs in association with MEA and external affairs ministries of other countries.
