SG Highway Stretch from ISKCON to KD Hospital Declared Zero-Tolerance Road
June 08, 2026
Ahmedabad: The city traffic police and the municipal corporation have launched a major initiative to address persistent traffic congestion on the busy S.G. Highway by declaring the stretch between ISKCON Crossroads and KD Hospital a “Zero Tolerance Road.” The move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow and eventually transforming the corridor into a signal-free route.
The decision follows the success of the signal-free traffic management system implemented near Palladium Mall. Authorities have now prepared a blueprint to make the entire ISKCON–KD Hospital stretch signal-free after studying the traffic management model adopted on Rajasthan’s Kota Highway. Officials are also considering extending the model up to Vishala Circle in the future.
Under the zero-tolerance policy, strict action will be taken against traffic violations such as illegal parking, wrong-side driving, road encroachments, and signal violations. CCTV cameras will be used extensively to monitor the corridor and enforce penalties.
Traffic DCP Naresh Kanjhariya said the initiative goes beyond merely removing congestion. The primary objective is to maintain a continuous flow of traffic on the corridor and gradually make it completely signal-free.
As part of the plan, lane management will be carried out based on vehicle speed and traffic density, similar to the Kota Highway model, to prevent bottlenecks during peak hours.
Authorities have warned that vehicles parked even briefly in no-parking zones will face fines or towing. Visitors to hospitals, showrooms, and commercial establishments along the corridor will be required to use designated parking facilities only.
Officials also said that stopping vehicles on the roadside to pick up or drop off passengers will be prohibited. While the corridor is being developed as a signal-free route, speed limits will continue to be enforced, and overspeeding vehicles will be identified through camera-based monitoring.
The initiative is expected to reduce travel time, improve fuel efficiency, and lower the risk of accidents on one of Ahmedabad’s busiest traffic corridors. DeshGujarat
