Ahmedabad, 13th of July 2008, DeshGujarat

Ahmedabad based Asaram Bapu ashram’s around 10,000 devotees from across Gujarat organized one kilometer long silent rally from Vastrapur lake to Sandesh newspaper’s headquarter. After Asaram ashram’s two missing children’s bodies were found behind the ashram in mysterious condition, vernacular newspapers in Gujarat started publishing one by one stories about Asaram Bapu. Among these stories one particular article in Sandesh mentioned that Asharam Bapu was a bootlegger in early days and used to sell liquor before becoming a saint.

Responding back, Asaram Bapu was critical about Sandesh and media on Saturday in his Delhi’s public program(Click here to watch Video). Today devotees rallied at Sandesh press in Vastrapur area peacefully. Amidst great controversy around two children’s mysterious deaths and series of rapid allegations then-after, Asaram ashram is going to organize a grand Gurupoornima festival in Ahmedabad on 18th to 20th July with presence of around 1 million devotees from all over India.

Devotees perceive negative stories about asaram bapu and his ashram as disrespect to Sanatan Hindu religion and humiliation of a saint. Banners in rally had slogans that said Ravan, Kans and Kauravs had humiliated saints and they had to pay for it later in their life. One can not tolerate humiliation of saint.
