Gujarat Govt Hikes MSP Purchase Limits for Bajra, Maize and Jowar Crops

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today announced that it has decided to increase the procurement limits of bajra (pearl millet), maize, and jowar (sorghum) under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme.

Announcing this decision, Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said that the state government has taken this decision in response to the farmers’ representations. The purchase limit of millet, which was earlier 2,000 kg (100 maunds), has now been increased to 3,500 kg (175 maunds) per farmer.

Similarly, the purchase limit of maize has also been increased from 1,500 kg (75 maunds) to 2,500 kg (125 maunds), and the purchase limit of sorghum has been increased from 1,000 kg (50 maunds) to 1,700 kg (85 maunds) per farmer. Thus, the state government has increased bajra by 1,500 kg (75 maunds), maize by 1,000 kg (50 maunds), and sorghum by 700 kg (35 maunds).

The Agriculture Minister added that the Food and Civil Supplies Department will now carry out the purchase process from farmers as per this newly set limit. This new approach of the government will directly benefit thousands of farmers of the state, and they will be able to sell their excess produce at the support price. DeshGujarat
