At IIM Ahmedabad: BarCamp was a treat for IT enthus

Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat on 6th of August, 2008

It was a cloudy fine Sunday morning and around 100 techno junkies were present at IIM Ahmedabad’s new campus with their laptops, Ideas, experiences and knowledge.

The occassion was Ahmedabad Barcamp2. Ahmedabad had it’s first BarCamp in January 2008. Sunday’s BarCamp was second. Bar camps world wide follow ‘unconference’ model. ‘Unconference’ model is quite a much flexible, free structured and young kind of conference model.

In Barcamps, Anybody can announce his session on the notice board and can start addressing the available mass in a given classroom. Mass is free to choose the session and speakers are free to choose the subject of their expertise to speak on.

At one time three sessions on different subjects were going on in three different classrooms In Ahmedabad-BarCamps2. While Roshan Shah introduced his new website in one session, Abhishek Desai shared theme of his website in another session just a classroom away.

In the Barcamp, it is very usual that in one session if you are a speaker, in another session you may be sitting simply in audience and in lunch time(linch time was in fact announced as ‘networking linch’) you can do networking for your already running venture or some crazy popping idea in mind. If you want to skip all the sessions and want to talk with some one you find interesting, helpful or like-minded you can always do that on a cup of coffee outside the classroom.

Enthusiastic participants Ram and Smita were from Chennai while some others were from Mumbai also. They had specially came to the city of Ahmedabad to participate in Bar camp. Ram talked about his first online micro finance website of India, RangDe.Org. While Netra from Mumbai talked to the youths about ‘Startup Saturday’ initiative in Ahmedabad.

Netra is originally from Ahmedabad but she is settled in Mumbai for her profession. She works in Pinstrom and also owns her digitalmarketing venture. Netra had participated in earlier BarCamps organized at Mumbai and Pune last year. She then decided to take the challenge of organizing BarCamp in her own city Ahmedabad. She was instrumental in organizing first BarCamp in Ahmedabad in January 2008. After first BarCamp’s success she organized August 2008 BarCamp only via online registration and word of mouth publicity. She now intends to organize third BarCamp of Ahmedabad in next December or January.

Participation in Ahmedabad barcamp2 was free, thanks to the sponsor company Sun micro systems and infrastructure provider authority IIM Ahmedabad’s entrepreneurship center . Bar camp is helpful and exciting activity. Remember a day will come when there will be thousands of people participating in Barcamp-Ahmedabad, may be in BarCamp no. 20 or 36. For now it was just Ahmedabad-BarCamp no. 2.

hi desh gujarat….read this… in todays times of india.. they have clearly mentioned that DLF IT SEZ coming up at gandhinagar is in trouble… government of gujarat has not shown any flexibility, no infrastructure,, nothing… DLF even said that its much cheaper to bring up an IT SEZ in PUNE rather than in ahmedabad… which means pune wins again!!… maharashtra’s investment policy has been so good that maximum investment this year has been in maharashtra.. gujarat is in 10th position.. once again rigid govt policy… lack of infrastructure… high cost.. has led to such a controversy…. PUNE wins again… so many times i have heard RJs of private fm channels in ahmedabad say on the radio “pack your bags n go to PUNE.. its the hot destination!!! submit your CVs to IT industries in PUNE” why should ahmedabad youth go to pune????? they should come here in ahmedabad to earn their livelihood…. why my city Ahmedabad is so very infamous???…. Lack of IT industries, Lack of opportunities, Lack of MNCs, stupid Stray cattle on the roads (even govt officials are afraid of the ‘rabaris’ what a joke!!), lazy gujarati attitude…. let alone pune, bangalore.. we cant even beat aurangabad or nasik or even Gurgaon.
