Crowd of over 2 million devotees, free lunch facilities for 3 lakh people, arrangement of 9 lakh ltr payable water….these are some glimpses of five day long North Gujarat’s Bhadarvi Purnima(full moon day of Gujarati month Bhadarvo or Bhadrapada)Ambaji fair that has started today after district collector performed religious ‘Havan’ procedure in the main temple here.

Gujarat government’s State Transport bus service has allotted 1500 extra buses for Ambaji fair. Ambaji’s Main bus-stand has been closed to set up alternative temporary bus stations at strategic points due to heavy rush of fair. Hoardings of time table are set up across the town. Handbills are also distributed for the same.

Gujarat government, Ambaji temple trust and district collectorate have set up water proof tents and temporary resting facilities at 33 different locations in and around Ambaji.

To facilitate lakhs of devotees who undertake miles of on-foot journey to Ambaji driven by devotion, Gujarat government has set up flood lights at blind turns on Danta-Ambaji road.Government has also ordered complete ban on vehicular traffic on this route for suitable duration. Long queues of devotees are being served with glasses of water by NSS unites of local college. Cultural programs are organized daily evening at old college ground during the fair. Temporary sanitation facilities are set up at different locations. Ambaji temple had been decorated by special Kolkati lighting.

Dog squads, Special operation group commandos, para military javans, anti terrorist squad’s team, DSPs of Sabarkatha, Mehsana, Patan district along with their striking forces, sniffer dogs, and bomb disposal squads are deployed in Ambaji town.

Strength of security force is almost double than last year. 7,000 police men are on extra duty for the Ambaji fair. State police chief PC Pande himself had paid visit to give final touches to security arrangements in Ambaji fair recently.

Border range incharge -Rajkot range I.G. VV Rabari and Gandhinagar range IG JK Bhatt are appointed on special duty to supervise security arrangements during Ambaji fair.

16 close circuit camera are set up in main temple complex. Though cameras are for security supervision purpose, Local cable TV channels too telecast Ambaji temples’ activities live via this set up.

Police are frequently checking rest houses, hotels and dharmshalas in and around Ambaji for last 15 days to prevent any suspicious movement.
