New Chief Secretory D.Rajagopalan taking charge from outgoing Chief Secretory Dr. Manjula Subramaniam in Gandhinagar’s sachivalaya on Tuesday, 30th September, 2008

59 year old, 1974 batch Indian Administrative Service(IAS) officer D. Rajagopalan has been appointed as the new Chief Secretory of Gujarat. He is going to replace retiring Chief Secretory Dr. Manjula Subramaniam. Manjula Subramanian has been appointed Vigilance Commissioner. Rajagopalan will assume office Wednesday
Chief Secretory is the supreme administrative post in the state.M.Sc.(Physics) Rajagopalan is Gujarat’s Additional Chief Secretary for Finance department. A K Joti has been given additional charge of the Finance Department replacing Rajagopalan. D. Rajgopalan had played major role in Grand success of Vibrant Gujarat Business Summit 2007. He was Principal Secretary for Industries and Mines then. Rajgopalan started his career as Assistant Collector Rajkot. Rajagopalan retires in July 2009.
Meanwhile IAS officers Vinod Babbar and Balwant Singh, two Principal Secretaries have been promoted as Additional Chief Secretaries. However they continue to retain their current postings. George Joseph has been appointed President of the Civil Services Tribunal.
