Mother plant of Nano the world’s cheapest car with Rs 2000 crore investment will be set up in Gujarat on Gujarat Agricultural University’s land that has been transferred to Tata Motors on market rate. 1100 acre land for Nano is located at exact 26 kms distance from Ahmedabad’s S.G Highway. Nano plant is just one km away from Ahmedabad-Sanand-Viramgam highway which is all set to be converted into a four lane highway by L&T within next 30 months under Built-Operate-Transfer model.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Tata group chairman Ratan Tata met today in Gandhinagar after which memorandum of understanding was signed for Nano plant. Earlier in the morning Gujarat cabinet met and approved land transfer for Tata Motors.

Nano plant is expected to give employment to more than 10,000 people. Nano’s CNG, Export oriented cars and Electric cars also will be developed and manufactured from Gujarat plant. 60 ancillary units that supply parts for Nano are also expected to come with Nano plant. Annual production from The Gujarat plant will have a capacity to manufacture 250,000 cars a year in the first phase, which will be built up to 500,000 cars a year. Tata will also set up Automobile Academy and will also contribute to ITI institute in Gujarat for human resource development.

Extremely happy Ratan Tata in a press conference at Gandhinagar said that in assisting Gujarat Tata would go beyond just Nano or automobile sector and would help for research and development in areas like agricultural, marine biology research too.
