Surat to set up 7 Day Care Centres for Senior Citizens

When it comes to innovative practices and speed of development, Gujarat’s Surat is far ahead than not only the other cities of Gujarat but other cities of India.

In line with Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s mission to improve Human index uplift, Surat Municipal Corporation is now going build to develop seven Day Care Units for senior citizens in it’s all seven zones. As of now, the project is in financial estimation and planing stage.

First such ‘Day Care Unit’ for senior citizens will come up in Rander zone’s Adajan area with capacity to accommodate at least 50 to 70 old age persons. It will be built on a reserve plot behind Adajan’s Gangeshwar Mahadev temple located at Honey Park road.

Proposed ground plus one floor Adajan Day care centre will house a TV room, elevator, temple, conference room, garden, music instruments for Bhajan, reading room, game instruments, and other facilities that can be enjoyed by senior citizens.

Medical check-up facility would be available free of cost twice every week in the proposed Day Care Unit.

Surat is India’s official fastest growing city with an annualized GDP growth rate of 11.5 per cent over the past seven fiscal years. Surat is also India’s reachest city with an average annual household income of Rs0.45 million or over $11,000. Between 2004-5 and 2007-8 Surat’s middle class doubled in size and its poor reduced by a third.
