The richest candidate in Lok Sabha elections 2009 is from Gujarat’s Surendranagar constituency.

Khimjibhai Patadia, a builder from Mumbai today filed nomination for Gujarat’s Surendranagar seat. In his affidavit Khimjibhai has declared his total assets worth Rs 514 crore 57 lakh(5 billion 14 crore 57 lakh or Rs5145700000). This includes movable properties worth Rs. 2.55 billion, immovable properties worth Rs 2.59 billion, diamond and other jewelery worth Rs 2.5 billion, a flat in Mumbai’s Kandivali:Rs 40 lakh, bank deposits:Rs 25,000, cash:Rs 5 lakh, 471 acres of agriculture land in Malad(Mumbai): Rs 50 crore, 15 acres of agricultural land near Thane:Rs 15 lakh, 40 acres land near Harania, Chotila(Gujarat):Rs 40 lakh, 13 plots in Ghodbunder near Thane:Rs 208.56 crore, shares, debentures and bonds:Rs 18 lakh, LIC policies:Rs 6 lakh, four cars:Rs 41.64 lakh, jewelery:Rs 50 lakh, unsecured shares:Rs 45 lakh, oil painting:Rs 3 crore, wife’s assets cash:Rs 5,000, bank deposits:Rs 20,000, national saving certificates: Rs 1,000, jewelery: Rs 25,000, sons Vijay and Paresh have movable and immovable assets worth Rs 4.65 lakh and 4 lakh respectively.

Khimjibhai Patadia(53), the President of Jaihindsena, grew up in Sanosra, a village near Chotila in Surendranagar district of Gujarat. After dropping out of school, he shifted to Mumbai in 1970s and earned fame and fortune there. He entered the property sector and was able to become a big land developer. He has office in Kandivili,in the suburbs of Mumbai, Maharahstra.

Main fight on Surendranagar seat is between candidates of BJP and Congress. However Khimjibhai’s entry as nation’s richest Lok Sabha candidate, has made sleepy and dry Surendranagar seat’s election interesting.
