A state-of-the-art automatic driver testing and training centre was inaugurated on Tuesday in Ahmedabad’s Chandola based State Transport Corporation(ST) campus.
The Gujarat State Transport(ST) is in process to appoint 500 new drivers for which the ST authority received total 2789 applications. After scrutiny, 669 candidates are selected for driving test.
From November 10th to 25th, the ST authority will test 50 candidates each day at Sensor oriented automatic computerized driver test system in Ahmedabad. All tests will be taken through automatic technology. Even candidate’s height and weight also will be measured through automatic measurement machine.
The ST corporation has ensured that only right candidates will be selected, as the technology is fool-proof and there is no chance of malpractice in appointment of new drivers.

This is a good technology to have especially for ST which is a really corrupted organisation. I remember travelling on ST in rural area when I was young. Conductors take money from villagers but rarely give tickets or give tickets of less amounts. All of them may not be corrupted but there are a lot in ST. I dont know what is the situation like today …
Ideally, Government should divide ST into 2 different companies, ST Infrstructures and ST trasportation just like Airports and Airlines. Let all private buses come to ST depos for fees according to the route node provided to them. It can work just like all government and private airlines using the same Airports and paying to airport according to number of routes they run from there.
Only sharp competetion can bring better costomer service and cheaper fares.
