With cyclonic storm ‘Phyan’ menacingly approaching south Gujarat, the schools in coastal Umargam and Daman areas are closed today.
“All schools are closed today in view of the inclement weather that is likely to worsen,” a school principal in one of the villages in coastal Umargam told DeshGujarat.
It should be mentioned here that in Mumbai the schools have been asked to shut down at 1 pm, offices have been advised to close by 2 pm by the administration.
In Mumbai, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is arranging for buses at Chhatrapati Shivaji and Churchgate terminus to ferry people back home.
All 24 control rooms have been activated. Areas under cyclone Phyan are expected to experience high-speed winds reaching upto 90 KM per hour. Therefore many trees maybe uprooted in the core area and its adjoining. People are cautioned against taking shelter under trees.
