Ahmedabad Plans to Shut Six SG Highway Cuts; ISKCON-KD Hospital Stretch to Go Signal-Free

Ahmedabad: To address the growing traffic congestion on the city’s roads, a major action plan has been jointly implemented by the city traffic police and the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Under the initiative, a total of 40 cuts on the city’s 76-km-long Ring Road have been closed. The administration claims that the move has helped the motorists to save up to 30 minutes during peak traffic hours.

Authorities are now considering shutting six more cuts on the SG Highway to further ease traffic congestion, following the earlier closure of the Gota, Sola, and Palladium Mall cuts. An extensive survey is currently underway regarding the closure of the Prahladnagar, ISKCON, YMCA, Thaltej, and Karnavati Club cuts. A final decision is expected after a meeting of the concerned departments in the coming days.

As part of the traffic management plan, the busy stretch between the ISKCON intersection and KD Hospital has been declared a “Zero Tolerance Road.” Authorities have prepared a blueprint to make the stretch completely signal-free and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. After inspecting 27 locations along the corridor, the traffic police prepared a detailed report and submitted an official presentation to the AMC recommending the necessary infrastructure changes.

What is a Zero Tolerance Road?

A Zero Tolerance Road is a stretch where strict enforcement of traffic rules is carried out without any leniency. Under this system, violations such as illegal parking, parking in no-parking zones, wrong-side driving, and jumping traffic signals are dealt with firmly, with immediate penalties imposed on offenders.
